McLaren MP4/14

The MP4/14 was a completely new car for 1999 using a lighter and lower 72 degree Mercedes F0110H V10 engine and the drivers for their 4th season together were Hakkinen and Coulthard. The season started well for Hakkinen with pole in the first 5 races which he converted to 2 wins, whilst Coulthard had less luck with retirements in 3 of the first 4 races. By the end of the year Hakkinen had managed 11 poles and 5 wins which won him the championship by 2 points from Irvine, who had been promoted to lead driver for much of the second half of the season following Schumacher's accident at Silverstone.
