Benetton B189
Another new engine - the compact Ford DFR V8 - brought another new car for Byrne and although the 189 was based on its predecessor it was something of an improvement and scored a win in Japan at the end of the 1989 season.

Benetton B191
Not as good as the B190, the new car was not helped by the changes in the design team. The car was usually quick and often in contention for points but reliability was a major problem with 13 retirement from 34 starts. The car is notable as the vehicle in which Michael Schumacher scored his first championship points. That happened at Monza in Michael's first race for the team.
